Types of Major
  • 1. Original Major: You shall select one major in your department and complete all the relevant courses.
  • 2. Advanced Major: You complete the certain number of credits in your original major to acquire advanced knowledge in addition to your required credits for original major.
  • 3. Multiple Major: You complete the certain number of credits in courses offered by other majors in your departments or by majors in other departments than your original major.
Scope of Completion
  • 1. You shall complete courses for your original major in your department (major).
  • 2. As for double major and minor, you may select all the majors except majors in Department of German Weimar Music and Department of German Music. However, the scope of completion for integrated and student-designed major is conducted as stated in Paragraphs 8 and 9, Article 11, Regulation on Completion of Liberal Arts and Major Courses.
  • 3. If you double-major majors in College of Education and departments (major) offering teaching courses you may acquire a teaching license after completing designated courses. However, as for the departments offering teaching courses you shall be selected as a candidate of teacher training course to complete the concerned courses.
  • 4. If either Department of Junior Secondary School Special Education is your original major or you double-major the said Department with approval from Office of Teaching Curriculum, then your major in Junior Secondary School Special Education is recognized in case where you complete the courses of the concerned department. However, if you intend to double-major Department of Junior Secondary School Special Education you shall be selected as a candidate of majoring teaching curriculum.
  • 5. You may double major/minor/integrated major in both day and night courses and as to courses you can take them in a maximum of 9 credits in the interdisciplinary manner in accordance with Article 14-2 of the Enforcement Rule of the KNU Regulations.
Credits
  • 1. Required credits for original major and double major are indicated in [Attachment 1] Regulation on Completion of Liberal Arts and Major Courses.
  • 2. A student who does not take his/her original major as advanced major shall complete more than one multiple major. However, an exception is applied to transfer admissions of 2015.
  • 3. You shall complete at least 3 credits of basic major courses and at least 21 credits of optional major courses in minor.
  • 4. If a student who has applied for double major and failed to acquire all required credits follows the condition regarding minor it may be recognized as minor. However, s/he shall apply for revision of types of major in a designated period in his/her final semester before graduation.
  • 5. A student who intends to complete double/integrated/student-designed major completes same courses available both in his/her original major and double/integrated/student-designed major, a maximum of 6 credits may be recognized. However, courses offered in optional liberal arts courses may not be recognized even if they are the same.
  • 6. In case where a student fails to meet required conditions for completion of original major, it is regarded as non-completion of major and requirements for graduation even if s/he meets the required conditions for completion of double-major/integrated major/student-designated major.
  • 7. If a student intends to complete practical/field training courses as major courses to complete double-major/minor/integrated major, s/he shall bear all related fee incurred by practical/field training.
  • 8. Courses and credits for each integrated major are indicated [Attachment 2-1] and [Attachment 2-2] Regulation on Completion of Liberal Arts and Major Courses and you shall complete at least 36 credits from courses offered by each major in the following manners:
    • 1) In case where two departments or majors are integrated
    •   You shall complete at least 12 credits, respectively in integrated departments and majors of the academic year.
    • 2) In case where three departments or majors are integrated
    •   You shall complete at least 9 credits, respectively in integrated departments and majors of the academic year.
    • 3) In case where four departments or majors are integrated
    •    You shall complete at least 6 credits, respectively in integrated departments and majors of the academic year.
  • 9. As for student-designed major, a student designs his/her own curriculum of 42 to 51 credits among the existing school curriculum and submits it within a designated period in spring semester of his/her second year and obtains approval from the president of the University. S/he shall complete at least 36 credits on his/her designed curriculum.
Key Notes
  • 1. When you double-major College of Education or departments with teacher training courses you shall complete required courses to obtain a teaching license. You shall follow conditions indicated in Instructions on Acquiring a Teaching License in Academic Affairs Guide for Newly Admitted Students.
  • 2. As for a student with double-major (including integrated and student-designed major) s/he shall complete a comprehensive graduation evaluation separate from his/her original major.
  • 3. If you are short of required credits for double/integrated/student-designated major, you may obtain recognition of minor on condition that you acquire at least 24 credits (at least 3 credits for basic major courses and at least 21 credits for optional major courses. However, as for students admitted in 2012 or previous years 21 credits for optional major courses are required).
  • 4. If a person with double/integrated/student-designed major completes the same courses available both in his/her original major and double/integrated/student-designed major, a maximum of 6 credits may be recognized as his/her original major and double/integrated/student-designed major, respectively. However, this policy does not apply to liberal arts courses.
  • 5. If you complete requirements for double/integrated/student-designed major but fail to complete your original major, it is regarded as non-completion of major and failure to follow requirements for graduation.
  • 6. If you intend to take experiment/practical/field training courses as your major courses, you shall bear any relevant fees incurred.
When to apply for completion of major
  • 1. To apply for completion of major, a person in second year shall submit “Application for Recognizing Completion of Major” on Student Portal and obtain approval in a designated period in late of fall semester.
  • 2. To revise the submitted Application for Recognizing Completion of Major, you may submit “Revised Application for Recognizing Completion of Major” in a designated period before completion of final exam in your final semester. This is permitted only one time.
