What is change of department/major?
Change of department/major refers to a transfer from one department (major) to another.
Eligibility
Transfer is permitted if a student falls under the following:
- 1. Those who have completed at least first-year courses
- - Those who were admitted in 2013 or thereafter and have completed at least 33 credits
- - Those who were admitted in 2012 or prior years and have completed at least 35 credits
- 2. Those who have completed at least three semesters and will advance to less than their 7th semester
- - Those who are taking their second semester or less than the 7th semester during the transfer application period or are on leave after taking the second semester or less than their 7th semester.
- - Those who have taken only one semester are not allowed to apply for transfer.
- - Those who are taking the 7th semester during the transfer application period are not allowed to apply for the transfer.
- - Transfer admissions of interdisciplinary studies may apply for transfer after completing their first semester.
- 3. Those with a GPA of 3.0 or above
- - Those admitted in 2008 or prior years must have a GPA of 2.5 or above.
- - Students admitted to interdisciplinary studies have no restrictions on their GPA.
- - Those who wish to transfer to another department/major because their former department/major has been abolished when they return to school have no restrictions on their GPA.
Change of Department is not allowed in the following cases:
- 1. Transfer to other department/major by those admitted to College of Arts and Physical Education, Department of German Weimar Music, College of Development of Future Talent
- * Those admitted to the College of Development of Future Talent may transfer to other departments/majors in the College of Development of Future Talent.
- 2. Transfer to the College of Arts and Physical Education, Department of German Weimar Music, College of Development of Future Talent, interdisciplinary studies by those admitted to another general department/major
- 3. Transfer to another department/major by those admitted under special admissions
- 4. Transfer admissions
- * However, transfer admissions may transfer to interdisciplinary studies.
- 5. Transfer to the same department/major from day courses to night courses
- 6. If a former department/major of day/night courses has been combined with or belongs to another college/department when a student returns to school or is re-admitted, the above restrictions are not applicable.
- ※ For departments in the College of Education, transfer is allowed only when there is a quota according to Operations Policy on (Extra) Admissions Quota for Teacher Training Facilities, and the quota varies for each semester.

- - Apply online during a designated period per semester
- - Student Portal on KNU website > Manage Revisions of Academic Affairs > Apply for change of department/major (not available from mobile devices)
How to Apply
Apply for change of department/major → Receiving department/major conducts screening procedure → Dean of department/major approves → Confirmation and approval finalized
Other
- 1. Students may transfer to another department/major only one time. However, those admitted to interdisciplinary studies or those whose former department/major has been combined/revised when they return to school or are re-admitted may transfer twice.
- 2. Students must complete the curriculum of the new department (major) after transfer.
- 3. Students must pay tuition for the department (major) they transfer to.
