Graduation Requirements
  • 1. Completion of at least eight semesters (not applicable to early graduation)
  • 2. Credits: At least 140 credits (130 credits for students admitted in 2013 or thereafter)
  • 3. Courses: Basic Courses, Major Courses, Mandatory Liberal Arts, Elective Liberal Arts, Elective Free Courses set out by each department
  • 4. Comprehensive graduation evaluation: Pass
  • 5. Chapel: Pass on at least four occasions (at least two for transfer admissions)

2. Elective Liberal Arts - Denoted as “ELA” on report cards
*There shall be a maximum of 48 credits in a combination of Mandatory Liberal Arts and Elective Liberal Arts.
3. Elective Free Courses
Denoted as “EF,” it refers to major courses in other departments completed by students who do not take teacher training courses (excluding education-related departments and students taking teacher training courses to obtain a teaching license), life-long educator courses, double-major, and minor.
*No restrictions on the number of credits for elective free courses
4. Basic Courses
Denoted as “Basic” in the section “Type of Curriculum,” it refers to courses students take before selecting a major to help them choose their major.
*Students may take a maximum of 6 credits (students admitted between 2009 and 2012) and extra credits in excess of 6 are not recognized as major credits. However, for students admitted in 2013 or thereafter, extra credits are recognized as major credits.
5. Mandatory Major Courses
Denoted as “M. Major,” there is only one course for comprehensive graduation evaluation and students must complete this course to graduate.
6. How to Indicate Types of Degree Program
* Types of Degree Program (Major/Double Major/Minor) are revised and confirmed by submitting “Application for Recognition of Degree Program Types (Revision application permitted only one time).

Article 12 Regulations on Completion of Liberal Arts and Major Courses
2. Delayed Graduation
Students may delay graduation if desired when they have completed all the requirements for graduation.
3. Details
A. Students may apply for delayed graduation within a designated period in their final semester before graduation.
B. Delayed graduation cannot be canceled once granted, and students must pay tuition in accordance with Article 6 of the Enforcement Rules of the KNU Regulations
  • Students maintaining their student status without registering for a course must pay one tenth of the tuition for the related semester
  • Students registered for three credits or fewer and courses without credit must pay one sixth of the tuition for the related semester
  • Students registered for between four and six credits must pay one third of the tuition for the related semester
  • Students registered for between seven and nine credits must pay half of the tuition for the related semester
  • Students registered for a course with experiment/practical/field training must pay the fees incurred by experiment/practical/field training in full
  • Students registered for ten or more credits must pay full tuition for the related semester
C. Students wishing to take more than one semester before delayed graduation must apply for delayed graduation in each semester within a maximum of 16 semesters as stated in Article 5 of the KNU Regulations

6. Key Notes
A. If a student with delayed graduation registers for courses he/she must pay tuition according to his/her selected credits.
B. If a student registers for courses and pays tuition but does not apply for delayed graduation, he/she will be subject to graduation evaluation and the graduation process will proceed.
C. If delayed graduation is granted, it cannot be canceled.

[Reference] Application of Revised Curriculum

1. Applies to
Revised curriculum applies to students who cannot follow the same curriculum as the current students since their academic status has changed (returning to school/re-admissions) or they have not completed mandatory liberal arts courses.
2. Mandatory Liberal Arts Courses
If students have not completed mandatory liberal arts courses they must complete them in the following manner before graduation:
  • * Students admitted in 1996 or prior years: If students have not completed mandatory liberal arts courses for graduation, they must complete at least 12 credits (18 credits for College Ⅲ Natural Sciences and Engineering) according to the new curriculum. Students re-admitted to the first semester of the first year must complete at least 10 credits (14 credits for College Ⅲ Natural Sciences and Engineering).
  • * Students admitted between 1997 and 2000: If students have not completed mandatory liberal arts courses, they must complete the courses indicated in the new curriculum.
